David Smith Counselling - Psychotherapy - Clinical Supervision
I am a Registered Practitioner. A BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and a BACP Senior Accredited Supervisor. In my therapeutic practice I am experienced in working with people of different genders, diverse cultures, social and working backgrounds. In my work as clinical supervisor I work within the profession supervising the work of counsellors and psychotherapists. Within both these aspects of my practice I work to the BACP code of ethics and practice. A sound aspect of my therapeutic practice is to build a relationship with you in order that we can explore whatever may be troubling you. This aspect is vitally important in counselling and psychotherapy, the building of a relationship. Here, if this works, there is a greater potential for the therapy to work. The foundation of my approach therefore is to listen to you and help you express yourself in both a confidential and non - judgemental environment. Your talking and expression can encourage clarity, release any negative feelings that may have been in place and challenge any unrealistic perceptions that you may have been holding on to. A significant aspect of my work is that I relate to and work with my clients. I interact with them to allow them to be themselves, yet also challenge and empower them. From this foundation we can then work together within the therapy to explore why you may have found yourself where you are, why you want to change and to put this change in place.
